Earth Month has arrived! During these turbulent times it’s more important than ever to look after our mental wellbeing while we are self-isolating. This month we are celebrating everything the earth gives us, with a special focus on all things botanical.

While we can’t spend too much time out and about, why not bring your plants indoors? Keeping house plants can absorb toxins and produce oxygen, helping to keep the air around you clean, alongside this they can help to boost your mood and optimism. Planting and gardening can help improve mental health through achieving a stronger sense of purpose and achievement, gaining new skills and getting in touch with nature.

We’ve compiled our top 10 bedroom and bathroom plants which you can find here. Some of our favourites include a Peace Lily, this boosts humidity and filters out toxic substances, Lavender, a natural remedy for sleep and relaxation, and a Chinese Evergreen, this plant thrives on humidity making it a perfect addition to any bathroom.

We’ve also put together some of our plant watering tips. Did you know you should only water your Orchid every 5-10 days? Succulents should only be watered every 10-15 days. Don’t forget you should also rotate your plants 180 degrees each day as the plant will lean towards the sun as it grows.

Plant-spiration

If you’re looking for some inspiration for the first plant you want to try, we have some suggestions:

  • Chamaedorea: the most resilient plant of all
  • Dieffenbachia: filtered light is best for this plant
  • Dragon Tree: pops of red can be found on the leaves
  • Spider Plant: fun and spiky
  • Weeping Fig Tree: not as sorrowful as it sounds

Looking after the planet is so important and we’ve been so thrilled to hear stories of wildlife returning to parks, rivers and canals in recent news, and we hope this can continue, here at Botanics we want to pursue the hope of a better tomorrow.
